mPEAK is an intensive mindfulness training course designed for high performers, including athletes, first responders, law enforcement personnel, business professionals, leaders, and others working in high-stress occupations. In short, it is for anyone seeking to draw on this proven practice to achieve their goals and reach new levels of performance and success. This cutting-edge training program is built upon the latest brain research on peak performance, resilience, focus, and flow. The mPEAK program enhances human capacity for mindfulness through established, empirically supported practices and exercises. Mindfulness is effective precisely because it is a way of being and relating to all aspects of life, rather than a technique or tool specific to a particular goal. As with physical training, this brain-training program is based on the understanding that optimal outcomes occur most often when participants continue to engage in the practices and exercises daily as a part of their training regimen. The foundation of this program is drawn from the highly respected and empirically supported Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. Additionally, the program incorporates specific practices and exercises formulated to align with recent neuroscientific findings, competitive advancements, and related research on optimal performance. The mPEAK program was initially developed in 2014 as a collaborative research project between the University of California San Diego’s (UCSD) Center for Mindfulness, UCSD neuroscientists, and the US Olympic BMX Team. Course Objectives include: • Developing greater focus and concentration • Practicing responding wisely to stress • Developing resilience by learning how to be with emotionally difficult or physically painful experiences • Priming for “flow states” during performance events and everyday life • Learning to be present to the process and letting go of attachment to the outcome • Leveraging personal strengths and stretching your edges without giving up or burning out • Recognizing and shifting from critical to compassionate inner self-talk • Processing and learning from inevitable mistakes and failures
